Ferraro Choi Receives 2008 NAIOP Hawaii Kukulu Hale Green Building Award for the Waipahu Intermediate School Cafeteria"The awards were established to recognize the achievements of those who have made outstanding contributions to Hawaii's commercial real estate industry and our community...." Al Beaudette Ferraro Choi received its 20th design award in its 20th year for the Waipahu Intermediate School (WIS) Cafeteria project. The Waipahu Intermediate School Cafeteria is a new full-service sustainable green-building cafeteria facility that provides a comfortable naturally lighted and ventilated environment for dining and multi-use activities. As the first pilot sustainable green LEED® certified project for the State of Hawaii Department of Education, the WIS Cafeteria is a benchmark facility that demonstrates the State's willingness to lead by example in its commitment to conserve resources and seek ways to provide better facilities for public schools. The Cafeteria demonstrates a number of sustainable green-building design strategies that ultimately benefit Hawaii's environment, reduce costs for the Department of Education, and provide a healthy environment for the students, faculty, and staff. The success of the project now extends beyond Hawaii, as the facility has been selected as a case study in the following publications:
