The USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research
Station is a 32,320 square-foot laboratory and research facility for
the Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry in Hilo, Hawaii. The
complex is linked by covered walkways and landscaped courtyards
and will include an administration building, multi-purpose building,
research building, field support building, and shade houses.
The facility will feature offices and work areas
for the research staff, two wet laboratories, support spaces such
as computer rooms, delicate instruments room, glass washroom,
library, map room, administration, and a multi-purpose conference
space.
The project employed various sustainable design
strategies, which are listed below:
