Offices for BUDGET
RENT-A-CAR
Honolulu, Hawaii
Budget Rent A Car's new offices and reservation center project
was a consolidation and relocation of the car company's regional
offices from a high-rise hotel building in the center of Waikiki
to a twenty thousand square-foot recycled industrial building in
Kakaako, the light industrial section of Honolulu. Budget's goals
were to provide an efficient and comfortable space for their employees
within a reasonable distance to their major service centers, the
Honolulu International Airport and Waikiki.
The large shell of the selected industrial building provided several
amenities: 1) the single-floor space (versus a multi-floor space
in a high-rise) allowed for enhanced inter-departmental interaction;
2) the high bay space easily allowed for the reservation center's
new computer facility; and 3) the stand-alone building provided
a Spartan-like facility, which could better promote the company's
image and namesake. Budget Hawaii also wished to convey the local
affiliate's unique place in the tourism market, which was expressed
with a consistent Hawaiian image through the use of tropical-inspired
art and upholstery, pastel faux finishes, and lava-like slate flooring
creating.
The project also included emergency and uninterrupted power supply
systems, as well as a discrete air conditioning system to maintain
critical reservation records in the computer facility.
